Remarks A commentary on Jñānaśrīmitra’s Vṛttamālāstuti (on the original index card also cited as Vṛttamālāvyākhyā, which is a modern fabrication). The second citation of the title of the commentary in this MS reads Vṛttamālāvivṛti (fol. 41v5).

Manuscript Features

The MS contains a few marginal corrections. Apart from the damage at the right edge the MS is clearly legible. The last folio of the MS with the colophon is missing. On the identity of the commentator, whose name is not explicitly mentioned in the preserved part of the MS, but for good reasons is assumed to be Śākyarakṣita, see Hahn 1993, pp. 64–65. This MS is not dated. On palaeographical grounds it may be assumed that it was written sometime in the 13th or 14th c.<ref name="ftn1">^{See Dimitrov 2002a, esp. pp. 54–56.}</ref> The MS contains four extra folios.

The first additional folio, numbered 117, is written in a variety of the Old Bengali script. It contains just a single stanza (gogajavāhanabhojanodgatapavitra° etc.) on the recto side, repeated twice  apparently an example of the particular kind of yamaka called ślokābhyāsa; on fol. 117v are exemplified four other plays on words, namely the sarvatobhadra (sakāranānārakāma kāmasādadasāmakā, rasāhavāvāhasāra, nāvavādadasāyakā), the murajabandha (sasenāśamanāraste, rasenāsīdanāratā, tāranādajanāmatta, vīranāśamanāmayā), the ardhabhrama (abhīkamatikenerddhe, bhītānandasyanāśane, kanasekāmasenāke, mandakāmakamasyati) and the gomūtrikā (pravṛtte etc.).

The second additional folio, numbered 15, is written in Newari script. In the left-hand and right-hand margins of both sides of the folio are a pair of decorative double lines drawn from top to bottom.

The third additional folio, numbered 33, is written in a very similar kind of Newari script to that of fol. 15. It has no decorative lines. A modern hand, apparently of the first cataloguer, has added the following text in the top margin Vṛttamālāvyākhyā ca. la. na. 711 (this obviously refers to the MS of the Vṛttamālāstutivivṛti).

The last folio is written only on the recto and contains eight columns divided into three sections. On top of each section are written eight abbreviations in Old Bengali script la for lagna, ā for āditya (sun), ca for candra (moon), a for aṅgāraka (Mars), bu for budha (Mercury), bṛ for bṛhaspati (Jupiter), śu for śukra (Venus), śa for śani (Saturn). Numbers are added under these abbreviations, apparently representing the period or aspect of each planet. In the top margin, which has to a great extent broken off, one can still read … svasthānāt ||.
