Reference On the standardisation of the word 'ghāghara': NGMPP basic data recorded different forms of a word as ghāghara / ghāghala, ghargharī / ghargarī, ghārghara, ghargarā, ghurghurī / gurghurī. Here ghāghara is accepted as standard form for all of them. The form is used frequently in comparison with others. It is derived form Sanskrit ghargharā or ghargharya "small bells". (See Monier-Williams). Ghāghara is nasalised as ghaṃgalā in Modern form.
