Manuscript Features

Of this MS the following folios are missing: 1–6; 20; 21; 23; 39; 40; 49; 50; 52; 54; 72; 73; 77–79; 86–89; 92; 93; 95; 96; 100ff.
Slightly damaged, mainly on the right-hand side, thus only a few akṣaras being affected, are the following folios: 55; 58; 60–63; 65–68; 75; 80–83; 98; 99.
Two folios have come out of order, i.e. fol. 76, which comes now between fols. 34 and 35, and fol. 99, of which the numbering is lost due to damage, coming now between fols. 94 and 97.

The text seems to have originally included merely the ākhyāta section (on verbal morphology and derivation) of the Kātantra, that is, its third pāda only. The extant portion of the MS covers now parts of Durgasiṃhas commentary on sūtra 3.1.16 (fol. 7r) up to parts of his commentary on sūtra 3.8.24 (fol. 99v) . As to the six missing fols. of the beginning it can well be guessed that they included sūtra-s 3.1.1–15, that is, the initial portion of the ākhyāta section. If we assume the MS to have originally ended with the last sūtra of pāda three, i.e. 3.8.35, we shall conclude that some four fols. of the MS are missing at the end.
