Manuscript Features

  • The 1st folio of the MS contains an excerpt from an unidentified medical text
  • The 2nd and 3rd folios contain a continuous excerpt from an unidentified medical text. The excerpt starts at "exp. 5 top", "exp. 4 bottom", "exp. 4 top" and ends at "exp. 3 bottom" with a sub-colophon:

iti aṣṭādaśabhūtanidānaḥ ||

All verses on these folios can be traced in Aṣṭāṅgahṛdayasaṃhitā Uttarasthāna 4

  • The sub-colophons of the main text do not distinguish between the 1st (pañcanidānalakṣaṇam) and the 2nd (jvaranidānam) chapters of the edition. Thus the numbers of the chapters given in the MS compared to the edition are smaller by one.
  • A few folios are missing and some misplaced:
    • *4r: exp. 25 bottom; *4v: exp. 26 top (the right margin with the numeral is broken off)
    • 8r is in exp. 8 (=9)bottom; 8v --- exp. 10 top
    • 12r: exp. 79 bottom; 12v: exp. 80 top (numbered)
    • 17v (?!), 18, 21r (?!) are missing
    • *19r: exp. 81 bottom; *19v: exp. 82 top (the right margin with the numeral is broken off; only 2 lines of verso are written, the text stops in the middle of the 2nd line at the first half of 17.12d and continues w/o omissions - with the seond half of 17.12d in *20r)
    • *20r: exp. 51 bottom; *20v: exp. 52 top (the right half of the folio is broken off; in the left margin of the recto in modern devanāgarī numerals is 28; the last sentence in the right half (!) of the verso is identical with 18.4cd, whereas 21v starts with 18.21cd. One leaf of the present MS contains roughly 20 verses from the edition.)
    • 21v: exp. 25 top (numbered)
    • *22r: exp. 27 bottom; *22v: exp. 28 top (the right margin with the numeral is broken off)
    • 23r: exp. 26 bottom; 23v: exp. 27 top (numbered)
    • *24r: exp. 13 bottom; *24v: exp. 14 top (the right margin with the numeral is broken off)
    • 62r is left blank. The text of 61v, however, continuous in 62v w/o omissions.
    • 76 is missing
