Title Vāmakeśvarītantra and Viṣamapadaṭippaṇī

Remarks Thus, an alternative title of this text would be #Visamapadaṭippaṇīsahitavāmakeśvarītantra. In the colophon, however, the text is only called Vāmakeśvaratantra (sic, not °keśvarī°), whereas the beginning of the text announces the Vāmakeśvarītaṃtra along with the Ṭippaṇa explaining the difficult words (śrīmatvāmakeśvarīgraṃthavismaraṇārthaṃ viṣamapade ṭippaṇaṃ)

Subject Śaiva Tantra

Language Sanskrit

The MS starts with two folios each bearing the number 1 on its verso side. Both verso sides contain the same text (from oṁ namaḥ śrītripurasuṃdayyaiḥ || … in line 1 to … athavā oṁkārādipīṭharūpāta° in line 7), but are written in different hands. The second fol. 1 is in the same hand as the rest of the MS. Thus, the first of these two folios seems to have been inserted into the MS later.

In our continuous MS between fol. 25 and fol. 26 some text portion seems to be missing, since there is no obvious continuity of text from fol. 25v to 26r. After fol. 25 a single folio from another MS has been inserted, bearing the folio number 25 and written only on the recto, in the same hand as the folio inserted at the beginning of the MS. It contains exactly the same the text (starting with °na cakramena likhitaṃ … in line 1) as all of fol. 25r (first) plus some akṣaras of fol. 25v.

The same is the case with folio 102. After fol. 102 of the continuous MS there is an inserted folio again numbered 102, written in the same hand as the inserted folios 1 and 25 but consisting of 5 lines only. Therefore, the scribe of the MS folios inserted another folio numbered 103 for the final lines of the text, whereas the continuous MS ends on fol. 102v. Again, the beginning of the text of the inserted fol. 102r exactly corresponds to the beginning of the text of fol. 102r of the continuous MS (°kāyatha | maṇḍakābhoginaṃ … in line 1)

The MS contains many scribal (grammatical) errors.
