Manuscript Features

Even though the title of this manuscript is given as Nepāletihāsa in the Saṃkṣiptasūcipatra, it seems to comprise five different texts. The first text is in a distinct hand; the next two texts all seem to be in another hand; the fourth text may be in yet another hand; the last one is clearly in a different hand. Only the second text has a sub-colophon.

The MS begins by describing the geography of the Kathmandu Valley and the history of the Malla monarchy up to the valley campaign of King Prithvi Narayan. This is, as mentioned in MS, a Nepali version of information collected by Sir John Shore (from Father Joseph) and published in Asiatic Researches (Vol. 2, 1790).<ref name="ftn1">See also Regmi, p. 203, paragraph 5.</ref>

ln the account of Jayaprakāśa Malla's war with Prithvi Narayan, there is a description of a hidden treasure being taken from the Paśupatinātha temple at the request of the former. After the victory, Prithvi Narayan recovered the treasure.

Another description is of the army of Jayaprakāśa Malla digging out a hoard of gold from around Svayambhū.

A second text, on exps.14–16, lists the temples of Dolakhā city.

A third text, titled "Serajaṅgī kitāp" and contained on exps. 16–18, describes the beginning of Bhimsen Thapa's career. It is supplemented by a fourth text, a list of the plants in his garden.

The final text contains a directive to army units (one year before the Kot Massacre) (jaṅgī pahilo sthīti); a second directive (jaṅgī dosro sthīti) is mentioned, but the text is not given. <references/>
