Manuscript Features

This MS containing parts of the Cāndravṛtti really consists of two incomplete MSS: the first MS consists of fols. 1; 2; 4 and 5, covering the text from the beginning up to the commentary on the last pratyāhārasūtra. These four foll. (exp. 5-8) have five lines each. On the back of fol. 1 some modern hand has written śabdalakṣaṇa in Devanāgarī characters (exp. 4 below).
The remaining 14 fols. (150-163) are written in another hand and have six lines each. They cover the text from Cān. 2.4.35 to 2.4.122. Fol. 162 has been microfilmed before fol. 150 (exp. 8/9).
Fols. 1; 2; 161–163 are slightly damaged. On a few folios the writing has been partially rubbed off (fols. 151r–153r; 155v; 159r).
In both parts of the MS the sūtras of Candragomin are given in full.

There is another fragmentary MS of two folios, which has been microfilmed right before the above folios, that is on exp. 3 and 4. The writing material seems to be paper, which has been cut in the form of a palm-leaf MS. These two folios (fol. 1 and 2, written by yet another hand) comprise the beginning of the sūtrapāṭha of the Cāndravyākaraṇa up to sūtra 1.1.136. A few sūtras are correct, but most of them are very corrupt, some almost past recognition. The same is true for the pratyāhārasūtras, and of the well-known introductory verse, too. In some places the scribe has indicated missing passages by a lacuna, in other places he has merged corrupt and incomplete sūtras into one.

Fol. 1v starts like this:
