Remarks The title in the colophon of the MS reads Upasargavṛtti. In the colophon, this work is said to be affiliated to the Cāndravyākaraṇa; the colophon of the Tibetan translation ascribes this work to Candragomin. The Sanskrit title given at the beginning of the Tibetan translation is Viṃśatyupasargavṛtti which is probably the original title.

The date given at the end of the MS seems to read saṃ. 774. If it is NS, as it most probably is, this would correspond to AD 1654, a palaeographically credible date.<ref>See No. 115 (Hs. or. 6492) in Lienhard 1988, pp. 103–104 and plate IX.</ref> The variety of Newārī script used in this MS is also referred to as Nepālākṣara.<ref>See Śākya 1960 and Lienhard 1988, pp. xviii–xxv.</ref> This work was translated into Tibetan by Jetakarṇa and Thar pa Lo tsā ba Ñi ma rgyal mtshan dpal bzaṅ po.<ref>See Verhagen 1994, pp. 55, 232–234 (CG 2); a new bilingual edition (Sanskrit-Tibetan) by Dimitrov/Oberlies is in preparation.</ref> Jetakarṇa is a Nepalese grammarian who worked together with Thar pa Lo tsā ba Ñi ma rgyal mtshan dpal bzaṅ po (end 13th–14th c.), the latter a pupil of Śes rab seṅ ge (1251–1315) and a teacher of Bu ston Rin chen grub (1290–1364).<ref>See Verhagen 1994, pp. 85 and 94.</ref>
