Bendall Vaṃśāvalī Prof. Cecil Bendall, University College, London and Hara Prasād Śāstrī, Asiatic Society of Bengal, Calcutta came in Nepal in a joint expedition for a catalogue of MSS of literary tradition of Nepal in 1898-99 winter. Prof. Bendall found " a small palm-leaf MS of a Vaṃśāvalī" in Bir library, named after Prime Minister Bir Shamsher (1885-1901), popularly known as Durbar Library, Nepal. The accession number of "the new Vaṃśāvalī' was No. 1231 in the Library (Bendall 1905:3). Later scholars named the Chronicle as Bendall Vaṃśāvalī (VB), after the scholar who identified the text for the first time. He published some facsimile plates of the chronicle in his "Historical Introduction" in Śāstrī (1905).

The Cataloguers of running present Lagat (accession list) of Bir Library (now National Archives) gave this name in the Lagat as 1-1583(7), which was started to prepare since VS 1979 Āśvina 17 gate ( October 3, 1922 AD)

Gopāla- Vaṃśāvalī Yogi Naraharinath introduced in short this GV by this name in Sanskrit Sandeśa, 1:2 (VS 2010 Jeṣṭha śukla ekādaśī = May 24, 1953 AD) and published full text in Himavatsamskriti ( Yogi 1959) and reprinted in Itihāsaprakāśamā sandhipatra saṅgraha (Yogi:1966). The name followed and published full text by Regmi (1966) and Regmi (1972-73) with classification of the kings.

Gopālarājavaṃśāvalī This name was given by Dhanavajra Vajracharya and Gyanmani Nepal in their pamphlet of Itihāśa – saṃśodhana [ No. 4] (Kathmandu : Author, p. 5), published in VS 2010 śripañcamī (February 8, 1954 AD ). The saṃśodhana-maṇḍala school popularized it. Vajrācārya- Malla (1985) and Vajrācārya (2007) published their books by this title. Later one is the historical analysis of GV.

Nepālavṛtta Nepal (1988) discussed about title of GV and preferred this name as of similar tradition.

Gopālādirājavaṃśāvalī We preferred to insert "ādi" to "gopāla" to make clear that this chronicle is about the kings of "Gopāla and others" rather than Gopāla-rājavaṃśāvalī ("Gopāla – Chronicle"). So, we gave title of this in this NGMCP Inventory No. 39475.
